The Middle East and Armenia Branch of the International Association of Educators for World      Peace [IAEWP] is part of a global organization that operates as an NGO under the mandate of the United Nations. The IAEWP is specifically associated with (ECOSSOC), UNDPI, UNICEF,  UNCED & UNESCO.

Our mandate is guided by four overarching principles:

(1) Promoting international understanding and world peace through education and developing new and innovative educational strategies and pedagogies dedicated to the pursuit of peace, social justice concerns, and current challenges to the maintenance and extension of peace in the Middle East and around the globe.

(2) Protecting the environment is intimately connected to preserving the peace because of the nature of 21st "resource wars" and our general concern with the health of this generation and the generations to follow. A successful strategy of conflict prevention necessarily involves taking the environment into account. This also means a readiness on the part of the IAEWP to challenge all threats to the environment, whether they are threats coming from the practices of national and multinational corporations or the global military-industrial-complex.

(3) Safeguarding human rights in accordance with the United Nation's Declaration on Human Rights is a broad and all-encompassing mandate for the Middle East and Armenia Branch of the IAEWP. Therefore, we are strong supporters of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), the Kyoto Treaty, the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT), the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty of 1972, the Chemical Weapons Convention, the Biological Weapons Convention, the Treaty Banning Antipersonnel Mines.

(4)To encourage peace talks between different groups and religions in the region . To encourage the peace process and the right of the people to live in a planet where human rights and peace are respected .

The aim of the Middle East and Armenia branch of the IAEWP is to set before the people their unfinished business. And, it is the task and purpose of the Middle East and Armenia  branch of the IAEWP to be in dialogue and common purpose with the rest of the world, regardless of what the Governments may or may not be doing in that regard. For we believe in a common humanity whose human interest deserves to be protected and respected.

From a global perspective, this means teaching that we are all citizens of the world, that we all inhabit this small planet, and that cooperation and peace are the goal of humanity. Any and all efforts, whether driven by the profit motive or the power motive which threaten global peace and encourage unnecessary discord between peoples and nations is deserving of our harshest condemnation.

Further, we are committed to protecting and enhancing the rights and aspirations of all indigenous people, people of color, all ethnic groups, races and religions. We seek a world in which there is not just one dominant discourse, but rather the free exercise of all previously submerged and subordinated discourses. In this way, our educational goals do not fit comfortably with any particular ideology. Rather, we seek the free exchange of ideas, the interaction of cultures, and the search for common ground in which inclusionary governance rules in both theory and in practice. In this endeavor, we seek greater intellectual, political, economic, social inclusion among and between peoples. It is our hope and our commitment to realize a new future in which the avenues for public participation are increasingly broadened to give voice and vote to every group, class, and citizen.
